What defines an expert? Who do you get your information from?
One thing that many people do not take into account when they get their information is the source and more importantly the "forces" behind the source. Many people believe that they can only learn from someone that has a doctorate, or PhD in a given subject. While this rule does apply to Structural Engineering, it doesn't always apply to fitness and training.
In this game, experience is the true teacher. There are 2 main areas of learning in fitness, the structured (thanks analogy); we will call this things like Kinesiology and movement dynamics.
AND
The subjective material; we will call this the philosophical application of diet modification and exercise prescription.
To have knowledge of the first, you need structured training and education. You need definitives and knowledge on things that cannot be manipulated across exercise boundaries. The biceps does this, the MCL does that and is located here. That, one cannot argue.
Carbohydrates and nutritive timing, can all be debated till we are blue in the face. What works for Ronnie Coleman will not work for Lance Armstrong.
The important part for people to know is what the difference is between the 2 and how to gauge the use of said information.
Part 2 tomorrow.
